Among the samples of ARMS, 50% had rearrangements of PAX3/7-FOXO1, 60% of ES samples were EWS-FLI1 positive and 90% of SS samples were positive for SS18-SSX1/2.
Standard cytogenetic analyses and RT-PCR testing for the classic gene rearrangements seen in RMS [t(2;13)-PAX3/FKHR] and EWS ([t(11;22) & t(21;22)-EWS/FLI-1 & EWS/ERG), were used for characterization of the MEM, with gene expression microarray analyses on all tumor types.

By combining the PAX3/FKHR RT-PCR assay with primers for detection of the Ewing's sarcoma t(11;22) encoded EWS/FLI-1 chimeric transcript, we have developed a multiplex RT-PCR reaction that allows the rapid and accurate identification of either translocation in a biopsy sample.
