In this study, we evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of baseline and restaging fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG-PET/CT) scans and their possible prognostic role in pediatric ES.
For pulmonary metastasis smaller than 7 mm, FDG PET-CT is less sensitive than CT. FDG PET-CT may have an important role in initial staging of Ewing sarcoma and subsequent evaluation of response to therapy.
The aim of our study was to evaluate whether the maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) obtained with 18F-FDG PET/CT before and after induction chemotherapy can be used as an indicator of survival in patients with Ewing sarcoma originating exclusively in the skeleton.
