To analyze the value of cytokines (tumor necrosis factor [TNF]-α, interleukin [IL]-1β, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10) as predictors of mortality at 30 days in octogenarians and nonagenarians hospitalized in an internal medicine unit for community-acquired pneumonia (CAP).
Plasma concentrations of MCP-1, sCD14, IL-6, and IL-10 were significantly higher in patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP; <i>n</i> = 10) and infective endocarditis (IE; <i>n</i> = 11) compared to those with bacterial meningitis (BM; <i>n</i> = 18).
