It supports previous small trials showing that angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors improve nerve conduction and advocates the need for larger clinical trials with blood pressure lowering agents in DPN.
The three C-peptide parameters were independently associated with DPN (all P < 0.05) after adjusting for age, sex, diabetes duration, smoking status, systolic pressure, body mass index, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors/angiotensin receptor blocker use, fasting plasma glucose, HbA1c, triglyceride and estimated glomerular filtration rate.
ACE polymorphism heterozygous genotype D/I presence was 60.77% (95% CI, 55.05-66.5) and was independently associated with a decreased risk of DPN (RR, 0.51; 95% CI, 0.30-0.86).
