This review discusses recent advances on the discovery of the progesterone receptor network, with special focus on the endometrium at early pregnancy and myometrium during parturition.
The number of PR positive epithelial cells was significantly lower in the group of women with early pregnancy and no subsequent breast cancer compared to the group of nulliparous women with subsequent invasive breast cancer (p = 0.0135).
Many of the genes involved in PR action in early pregnancy have also been shown to have roles in uterine diseases such as endometriosis and endometrial cancer.
