The present study investigated the role of platelets in promoting vascular inflammation following angiotensin II (Ang II ) stimulation, and the efficacy of antiplatelet intervention.
Tieu and colleagues define alterations in the regulation of vascular inflammation in the pathogenesis of Ang II-induced aneurysm and dissection in mice, which may help shed some light on this apparent paradox.
We have shown here that subcutaneous infusion of Ang II, a vasopressor known to promote vascular inflammation, into older C57BL/6J mice induced aortic production of the proinflammatory cytokine IL-6 and the monocyte chemoattractant MCP-1.
