Two onc genes of avian sarcoma viruses unrelated to the src gene have recently been identified: fps of Fujinami sarcoma virus/PRCII/UR1 and yes of Y73/Esh sarcoma virus.
Since overexpression of the cellular counterparts of viral-transforming genes may play a role in carcinogenesis, pp60c-src kinase was measured in nine spontaneous human sarcomas and 21 mammary carcinomas.
The oncogenes coding for the Harvey murine sarcoma virus p21ras protein as well as those coding for myc, myb, and mht products were fused to the amino-terminal portion of the bacteriophage lambda cII gene on the expression vector pJL6.
Transfection of normal human bronchial epithelial (NHBE) cells with a plasmid carrying the ras oncogene of Harvey murine sarcoma virus (v-Ha ras) changed the growth requirements, terminal differentiation, and tumorigenicity of the recipient cells.
(i) FN from fetal connective tissue, placenta, amniotic fluid, hepatoma, and colon carcinoma as well as cell lines from fetal tissues (WI-38), hepatomas (HuH-6 and HuH-7), and sarcoma (VA13) was characterized by the presence of the FDC-6-defined domain and by a high molecular weight (subunit Mr, 310,000-335,000).

Amplification of c-erbB-2 was at least three times more frequent in breast cancer than in most other types of carcinoma, and was not found in sarcomas or hematological malignancies.
A retrovirus containing part of the human insulin receptor (hIR) gene was constructed by replacing ros sequences in the avian sarcoma virus UR2 with hIR cDNA sequences coding for 46 amino acids of the extracellular domain and the entire transmembrane and cytoplasmic domains of the beta subunit of hIR.

Sequence analysis has revealed that: (a) the PDGF-2 chain is encoded by the c-sis protooncogene, the cellular counterpart of the simian sarcoma viral oncogene; (b) the PDGF-1 and PDGF-2 chains are related; and (c) the PDGF-1 gene has no known viral homologue.

Ras oncogene expression of malignant melanoma and melanocytic nevus have been immunohistochemically analyzed on formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded tissues from 26 melanomas and 24 melanocytic nevi with a monoclonal antibody that was generated against Harvey sarcoma virus-derived ras oncogene products (p21ras).
Using a probe that detects a polymorphic locus within the RB1 gene we found loss of only one allele (heterozygous deletion) in 33% of soft tissue sarcomas examined, including two leiomyosarcomas, a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumour, a rhabdomyosarcoma and a chondrosarcoma.
In order to determine whether 5' truncation alone could activate cellular raf, we constructed 21 human c-raf-1 cDNAs with variable BAL 31-generated deletions distal to a Moloney murine sarcoma virus long terminal repeat and a consensus translation initiation sequence.
Hybridization of a 32P-labeled IGF-II cDNA to a Northern blot of RNA from three nonislet cell tumors associated with hypoglycemia (a hemangiopericytoma, fibrosarcoma, and malignant mesenchymal tumor) demonstrated six hybridizing bands, 6.8, 5.6, 4.7, 3.6, 2.6, and 2.1 kilobases in length.
Because of the potential importance of overproduction of this protein in neoplastic development, we examined DNAs from 29 cases of childhood sarcoma for evidence of amplification of the gli gene.
