Common variants in CYP2C19 and STAT6 associate with a PPI-nonresponsive EoE outcome of PPI therapy for esophageal eosinophilia suggesting that response rates may be improved by adopting a genotype-guided approach to PPI dosing.
Neonatal STAT6-IP treatment inhibited the development of airway hyper-responsiveness (AHR) and significantly reduced lung eosinophilia and collagen deposition in adult mice following RSV reinfection.
Similarly, we found that esophageal eosinophilia in IL-4/IL-13 double gene-deficient and STAT6 gene-deficient mice were also not reduced following allergen-induced experimental EoE.
From these findings we conclude that the human STAT6 gene is rather involved in the development of eosinophilia and changes in total IgE levels than contributing to the pathogenesis of asthma.
