Losartan administered at the onset of prehypertension is more effective than amlodipine in ameliorating hypertension and improving vascular remodeling and function, which is likely mediated by the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system.
Although a familial occurrence of subtle disturbances in AngII-dependent control of aldosterone and renal hemodynamics appears possible, BP regulation by the renin-angiotensin system is probably often intact at the stage of prehypertension.
