In the present study, we performed a systematic mutation scan of the complete coding region and splice junctions of the 5-HT(6) receptor gene to explore the contribution of this gene to the development of bipolar affective disorder and schizophrenia.
The lack of significant mutations in patients suffering from schizophrenia and bipolar affective disorder indicates that the 5-HT1F receptor is not commonly involved in the etiology of these diseases.
