These findings suggest that SIRT3 inhibition and consequent protein hyperacetylation represents a negative feedback mechanism limiting mitochondrial oxidative pathways when respiratory metabolism is compromised, and thus, may contribute to the lethal cardiomyopathy in FRDA.
