We conducted an association study to identify risk variants for familial prostate cancer within the HPCX locus at Xq27 among Americans of Northern European descent.
Linkage studies have implicated a prostate cancer susceptibility locus at Xq27-28 (termed HPCX), estimated to be responsible for approximately 16% of hereditary prostate cancer cases.
We have recently mapped a locus for hereditary prostate cancer (termed HPCX) to the long arm of the X chromosome (Xq25-q27) through a genome-wide linkage study.
To date four prostate cancer predisposing loci have been mapped: HPC1 (Hereditary Prostate Cancer 1) on 1q24-25, PCaP (Predisposing for Cancer Prostate) on 1q42.2-43, CAPB (Cancer Prostate and Brain) on 1p36, and HPCX on Xq27-28.
