Fresh whole blood samples from splenectomized TDT-β-thalassemia/HbE patients (11 with PAH and 14 without PAH) and 15 normal subjects were analyzed for platelet activation by measuring P-selectin expression using flow cytometry and the number of dense granular using an electron microscope.
The results showed that the treatment with AOS (5, 10, or 20 mg/kg) dose-dependently decreased the expression of P-selectin in serum, pulmonary tissue and pulmonary artery of MCT-induced pulmonary arterial hypertension rats.
Here we investigate whether circulating platelets may be a source of sTWEAK and contribute to diminished availability of sTWEAK and P-selectin in PAH patients.
The concentration of plasma P-selectin was markedly higher in PAH-CHD patients than that in CHD subjects and controls, while no difference was observed between CHD group and control.
