Our data suggest that the inflammatory mediators, especially IL-1β, may prime naïve cells to infection and lead to increased infection rates in microglial and astrocytoma cells.
We have examined expression of the components of the plasminogen activation system in human astrocytoma U373-MG cells and found that interleukin 1beta (IL-1beta), tumour necrosis factor alpha TNF-alpha), interferon gamma (INF-gamma) and epidermal growth factor (EGF) specifically regulate the expression of tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA), urokinase-type plasminogen activator (u-PA), plasminogen activator inhibitor type 1 (PAI-1) and protease nexin-1 (PN-1).
Here, we demonstrate that astrocytoma cells obtained shortly after tumor neurosurgical resection respond to the direct application of human IL-1beta with a significant upregulation of IL-1alpha, IL-1beta, IL-1RI, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) mRNAs.
In this report, we describe the DNA sequence and transcription factor requirements for interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) induction of the RANTES promoter in the human astrocytoma line CH235.
In the present study, the effects of seven non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) on interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 beta)-induced IL-6 mRNA expression and protein synthesis in a human astrocytoma cell line were investigated.
Interleukin-1 beta uses common and distinct signaling pathways for induction of the interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor alpha genes in the human astrocytoma cell line U373.
The objective of this study was to investigate the induction of interleukin-1 beta mRNA by lipopolysaccharide, and the inhibition of this process by dexamethasone, in human astrocytes using the astrocytoma cell line U-373MG as a model system.
We, therefore, examined the expression of IL-6, GM-CSF, and TNF-alpha in human primary astrocytes and astrocytoma cell lines U251 and 253 exposed to IL-1 in serum-free medium.
In human astrocytoma and neuroblastoma cell lines tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF alpha) and interleukin 1 beta (IL-1 beta) induced NFKB and an additional KB-specific protein of approximately 80 K to bind the HIV-1 enhancer.
In particular, an astrocytoma cell line U373MG subclone responded markedly to IL-1 with high expression levels of IL-8 and MCAF mRNA as well as IL-6 mRNA.
In this report, the effects of elevated temperature and dexamethasone on LPS-stimulated IL-1 beta and TNF alpha mRNA gene expression and protein synthesis were studied in human astrocytoma cell lines and primary cultures of human fetal astrocytes.
In this report we describe a human astrocytoma cell line (T24) which produces IL-1 constitutively and upon induction with phorbol myristate acetate in vitro.
