CA enhances the expression of nerve growth factor (NGF) and antioxidant genes, such as <i>HO-1</i> in an Nrf2-dependent manner in U373MG human astrocytoma cells.
The results of the present study suggest that the expression of NGF and BDNF is increased in astrocytomas, which is associated with the pathological grade and the astrocytoma location.
In the present study, we firstly examined the effects of ethanol extracts of four edible mushrooms, Hericium erinaceus (Yamabushitake), Pleurotus eryngii (Eringi), Grifola frondosa (Maitake), and Agaricus blazei (Himematsutake), on nerve growth factor (NGF) gene expression in 1321N1 human astrocytoma cells.
These results indicate that 2,5,6-tribromogramine promotes the synthesis and secretion of neurotrophic factors including NGF in 1321N1 cells via an activation of PKC-epsilon.
