Six SNPs in self-identified White women were protectively associated with delayed age of AD onset in this self-identified group, including the two restriction fragment length polymorphisms PvuII (rs2234693) and XbaI (rs9340799) (HR range = 0.420-0.483).
However, women with this genotype had a substantially increased risk of AD associated with the APOE ε4 allele (adjusted HR: 3.24, 95% CI: 1.81-5.79 for women rs2234693 CC; compared with HR: 1.87, 95% CI: 1.37-2.56 for all women).
Women with at least 1 copy of the C allele at rs2234693 (PvuII) and those homozygous for the C allele at rs2077647 had an almost 3-fold increase in the risk of AD, compared with women without the C allele.
