In conclusion, we have shown that the Q192R polymorphism is a determinant of both PON1 concentration and activity and this association appeared to be enhanced in subjects with diabetes.
Our data suggest that PON1 Q192R polymorphism was not independently associated with MI but further increased the risk of MI among the subjects with DM, obesity, or both, the conditions associated with high oxidative stress.
Moreover, the L55M polymorphism did not show any interaction with other risk factors such as smoking, diabetes, hypertension, low levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) or high ratios of low-density to high-density lipoproteins.
