In adolescents of European origin, hypertension is associated with an increased degree of obesity among other characteristics of the metabolic syndrome; the Trp64Arg variant of the beta3-adrenergic receptor gene may favor the central adiposity gain.
Our results are consistent with the thesis that the Trp64Arg polymorphism of the beta 3-adrenergic receptor gene is associated more often with the condition of high blood pressure than with normal blood pressure.
