The pooled OR showed that there was no statistically significant association between XRCC3 Thr241Met polymorphism and leukemia risk in overall including studies, while a risky association was observed for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) (dominant model TT/TC vs. CC: OR = 1.240, 95% CI = 1.018-1.511, P = 0.032).
Our findings indicate that the XRCC3 Thr241Met polymorphism may be a genetic risk factor for AML, particularly in male patients with de novo AML from the central part of Romania.
Our study revealed that RAD51 G135C and XRCC3 Thr241Met alleles were associated with increased risk of AML with odds ratio (OR) of 2.833 and 2.909 and 95% confidence interval (CI) of 1.527 to 8.983 and 1.761 to 9.788, respectively.
The distribution of polymorphisms in RAD51-G135C and XRCC3-Thr241Met were studied by PCR-RFLP analysis in 625 cases of de novo AML, including 105 cases with inv(16)/t(16;16)/CBFβ-MYH11, 806 family controls and 704 volunteer controls.
