Multiple studies have demonstrated that single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the ITGAM locus (including the nonsynonymous SNPs rs1143679, rs1143678, and rs1143683) are associated with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
There are evident population distinctions in terms of SLE distribution and manifestations; therefore, we investigated the distribution of the ITGAM Arg77His and Ala858Val polymorphisms in patients with SLE (n = 154) and control subjects (n = 276) in a sample of the Polish population.
Although this meta-analysis showed significant association of rs1143683 (A vs. G, OR 1.534;95%CI 1.312-1.792), rs9888739 (T vs. C,OR 1.627;95%CI 1.380-1.918), rs1143678 (T vs. C, OR 1.543; 95%CI 1.330-1.790), rs9937837 (A vs. G, OR 0.466; 95%CI 0.227-0.957) with SLE; all of these were conducted in random effects model as heterogeneity was detected.
