Individuals with minor allele carriers of rs9939973, rs8050136, rs1781749, and rs3751812 had lower risk of obesity when they had higher MDS, compared to wild-type homozygote genotype carriers.
Due to lack of replication regarding FTO association with obesity in the Greek adult population, we analyzed three SNPs, i.e. rs9939609, rs9930506 and rs3751812 in a cohort of 203 adults, comprising of 95 obese, 58 overweight and 50 control individuals.
The minor SNP allele of rs3751812 conferred a predisposition to obesity, and its odds ratio was 2.2 [95% confidence interval (CI), 1.5-3.4] in the additive model and 2.7 (95% CI, 1.6-4.4) in the dominant model (p < 0.001).
