In the placebo group, SNPs rs165599 (COMT) was significantly associated with an increased heat pain threshold (β = -1.87; p = .003) and rs6827096 (EDNRA) with an increased resting pain (β = 2.68; p = .001).
We studied COMT single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) rs6269, rs4633, rs4818, rs4680, and rs165599 to determine their relationship to patient self-reported pain, the number of acute VOEs, and their impact on daily life and health care utilization in 438 hemoglobin SS patients who participated in the walk-PHaSST study.
The rs165599 SNP, which has previously been associated with response of depressive symptoms to treatment in patients with MDD, did not impact baseline pain in either gender.
