Similarly, the rs11781886 minor allele (CC+CT) combined with vitamin E administration was significantly associated with increased prostate cancer risk (HR, 1.450; 95% CI, 1.117-1.882; P = 0.0052).
These results suggest that the functional variant rs11781886 in the 5'-UTR of NKX3.1 can affect its transcription by altering the binding affinity of a transcriptional factor Sp1, and might result in PC susceptibility by lowering expression of NKX3.1 in the prostate.
