Of 41 recently discovered breast cancer susceptibility variants, associations were found between rs1432679 (EBF1), rs17817449 (MIR1972-2: FTO), rs12710696 (2p24.1), and rs3757318 (ESR1) and adjusted absolute and percent dense areas, respectively.
For the first time, rs3757318 at 6q25.1, located next to the gene encoding estrogen receptor α (ESR1) was found to be strongly associated with breast cancer (OR=1.33, 95% CI=1.18-1.49, P=1.94 × 10(-6)) in the Chinese population.
Three SNPs were significantly associated with a breast cancer risk in multivariate analysis: rs2046210 (per allele OR=1.37 [95% CI: 1.11-1.70]), rs3757318 (OR=1.33[1.05-1.69]), and rs3803662 (OR=1.28 [1.07-1.55]).
