IMPLICATIONS: This study shows that CDX1 contributes to the tumorigenesis and progression of gastric cancer and suggests the potential of targeting CDX1 to treat this malignancy.
Sonic hedgehog (Shh) signaling is an important pathway which may be dysregulated in many cancers.CDX1/2, and KLF5are key transcription factors involved in Shh pathway and cancer stem cells.
Finally, correlation of CRC cell line glycosylation features with cancer cell markers and phenotypes revealed an association between highly fucosylated glycans and CDX1 and/or villin mRNA expression that both correlate with cell differentiation.
The expression of CDX1 in dysplasia group was significantly higher than in the control group (P = 0.001); in addition, CDX1 and CDX2 in cancer group was significantly higher than control group (P < 0.001, and P < 0.001, respectively).
Because a key feature of the development of a cancer is an unbalanced program of proliferation and differentiation, dysregulation of CDX1 may be an advantage for the development of a colorectal carcinoma.
