In this paper, we demonstrate by reverse transcriptase-mediated polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) that bFGF mRNA is expressed in two leukaemia cell lines with megakaryocytic features (Meg-01 and K562), in two lymphocytic cell lines (Hut 78 and CA) and in normal human peripheral blood mononuclear cells.
Expression of angiogenic polypeptides vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) associate with clinical characteristics in human leukemia and lymphoma, and their serum concentrations serve as predictors of poor prognosis.
We also showed that the combination of leukemia inhibitor factor/bone morphogenetic protein 2/fibroblast growth factor 2 effectively promoted maintenance of the pluripotency of the PSCs present in DRGs, as well as that of neural crest-derived stem cells (NCSCs) in DRGs, which were previously shown to be present there.
