The heterodimeric IL-12 family member cytokines including, IL-12, IL-23, IL-27, and IL-35 and have multiple roles in regulating innate and adaptive immunity with crucial functions in inflammatory disorders such as psoriasis.
In this study, to further investigate the in vivo role of IL-27 in the pathogenesis of psoriasis, we induced psoriasis-like inflammation on mouse back skin with topical application of imiquimod (IMQ), and continuously injected IL-27 or PBS subcutaneously.
The study aimed to investigate the role of IL-27 in the progression of psoriasis and its underlying mechanisms, particularly its influence on Th1 and Th17.
