In 44 patients with coronary artery disease or hypercholesterolemia (not on lipid-lowering treatment), lipid profile and endothelial function (brachial artery flow-mediated dilation, FMD) were measured at baseline and after treatment with statins for 8-12 weeks.
In multivariate analysis, no significant association between ATH status and CIMT, CAC or brachial artery FMD was found after adjustment for the use of alcohol, dairy products and all other major risk factors of coronary artery disease.
Moreover, the linear regression analysis demonstrated, and analysis of variance confirmed that coronary artery disease and peracted endovascular interventions of lower limbs arteries are significant determinants of the better ΔFMD improvement.
