Both the gene encoding the alpha subunit of G stimulatory proteins (GNAS1) and the beta3 subunit gene (GNB3) of G proteins are associated with obesity and/or hypertension.
Common polymorphisms of the GNAS and GNB3 (which encodes Gbeta3) genes have been associated with multigenic disorders (e.g. hypertension and metabolic syndrome).
These observations suggest that the GNAS1 T393C polymorphism is associated with ANS activity in youth, so that it may be useful as a genetic marker for future pathogenesis of hypertension.
