The correlation between low-methylation subgroup and IPF was further validated by quantitative methylation analysis of marker genes commonly hypermethylated in SCC (HOXA2, HOXA9 and PCDHGB6), and markers specifically hypermethylated in high-methylation subgroup (DLEC1, CFTR, MT1M, CRIP3 and ALDH7A1) in 77 SCC cases using pyrosequencing (p = 0.003).
Moreover, comparison of methylation results with certain clinicopathological characteristics of the patients suggests that methylation of HOXA2 and HOXA10 may be of prognostic relevance in squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) patients.
The dysplasia tissues showed higher expression of HOXA2, A3, B3, and D10 than normal mucosa tissues whereas they showed lower expression of HOXA1, B7, B9, and C8 than SCC.
