Among this subnetwork, mir-21 indicated the highest degree centrality and was demonstrated to exert its oncogenic effects in prostate tumors by downregulating transforming growth factor β receptor 2 (TGFBR2).
Together, these results suggest that the AR and miR-21 axis exerts its oncogenic effects in prostate tumors by downregulating TGFBR2, hence inhibiting the tumor-suppressive activity of TGFβ pathway.
Using microarray studies, we show that resveratrol reduced the expression of various prostate-tumor associated microRNAs (miRs) including miR-21 in androgen-receptor negative and highly aggressive human prostate cancer cells, PC-3M-MM2.
