The reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction analysis revealed that PCNA‑1 was significantly upregulated (up to 5‑fold) in the lung cancer cells (P<0.05), and the overexpression of miR‑204 caused the downregulation of PCNA‑1 in A549 lung cancer cells.

Notable findings in lung carcinoma include: (i) cyclin A/cdk2 plays a key role in cell proliferation, while protein amount of cyclin E does not necessarily reflect cellular proliferative activity, depending on the tumor type; (ii) CKI function not only as suppressors, but also as activators of cdk, depending on expression levels; and (iii) aberrant expression of cyclin/cdk can lead to apoptosis in vivo in humans.

In this study, we used immunohistochemical (IHC) staining to detect YB-1 expression in 59 lung cancer tissues and to evaluate whether YB-1 expression was associated with the expression of YB-1 target genes such as Topo IIalpha, PCNA and MDR1 in human lung carcinoma.

The amplitude of intracellular calcium oscillations of strain C was lower than the one of strain D; 3) strain C had more villous-like protrusions on the cell surface, whereas strain D had more bubble-like protrusions; 4) The expression of nm23-H1 and p53 protein of strain C was all higher than that of strain D. The expression of PCNA of strain C was lower than strain D; 5) nm23-H1 mRNA levels of strain C was lower than that of strain D. We consider that the karyotype of chromosomes, intracellular free calcium, the structure of cell membrane and the expression of nm23-H1 gene, p53 gene, PCNA could be closely related to the metastatic potential of human giant-cell lung carcinoma.

To examine the role of elevated glucose uptake in lung cancer, we performed PCR amplification of 2 facilitative glucose transporter genes (GLUT1 and GLUT3) and immunohistochemical staining for GLUT1, proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), and sialyl Lewis x (sLe(x)) on tumor specimens from 327 patients with lung cancer who underwent surgical resection from 1980 to 1993.
