We investigated the mRNA transcription patterns of 17beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase-isoenzymes type 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 10, 5alpha-reductase type 1 and 2 and the androgen receptor in genital skin fibroblasts from foreskin and scrotal skin obtained from healthy males and patients with unclassified 46,XY DSD. mRNA expression was semi-quantified by real-time PCR.

: It has long been established that mitochondrial dysfunction in Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients can trigger pathological changes in cell metabolism by altering metabolic enzymes such as the mitochondrial 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 10 (17β-HSD10), also known as amyloid-binding alcohol dehydrogenase (ABAD).
