Kaplan-Meier survival curves and Log-rank test showed that LAPTM4B*1 was correlated with shorter overall survival (OS) in discovery and testing cohorts of colon cancer (P = 0.0254 and 0.0292, respectively), but not in rectal and esophageal cancer cases (P = 0.7669 and 0.9356, respectively).
We found that there was a significant difference (P = 0.0016) in allelic frequencies of LAPTM4B*2 between colon cancer cases (33.2%) and controls (24.1%).
By analysing genome-wide expression profiles of microdissected solid tumour samples by the means of Affymetrix GenChip hybridisation, we found LAPTM4b to be upregulated in 88% (23/26) of lung and in 67% (18/27) of colon carcinoma patients.
