Compared with the control group, the CAD group displayed significantly higher serum levels of retinol-binding protein-4 (RBP4), pentraxin 3 (PTX3), galectin-3 (GAL-3), and plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI-1), and significantly lower levels of netrin-1 (NTN1), interleukin-37 (IL-37), and adiponectin (ADP) (all P < 0.05).
However, elevated pentraxin-3 level appeared to not significantly increase the risk of cardiac events (RR 1.63; 95% CI 0.71-3.72) in stable CAD subgroup.
Stepwise multiple linear regression analysis showed that PTX3 levels and NLR levels were independently associated with CAD (r=1.3, P<0.05; r=1.8, P<0.05).
Through this study design, the results could not support the hypothesis that adding EPA in patients with stable CAD receiving varying degrees of statin treatment reduces the plasma PTX3 level comprehensively.
