Taken together, these findings suggest that RINT-1 serves as a novel tumor suppressor essential for maintaining the dynamic integrity of the Golgi apparatus and the centrosome, a prerequisite to their proper coordination during cell division.
These genes include the proliferation inhibitor HPB1, the loss of expression of which has been associated with invasive breast cancer, as well as the mitosis integrity-maintenance tumor suppressor RINT1.
Rint1 has been postulated to function as a tumor suppressor as well as an oncogene, with its role depending perhaps upon the precise cellular and/or experimental context.
