Infusion of Ang II increased blood pressure (p < 0.001) but decreased vascular relaxation in response to acetylcholine, endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) and phosphorylated eNOS (peNOS) levels, and renal and plasma levels of adiponectin (p < 0.05); in contrast, plasma tumor necrosis factor-α and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 levels increased.

We fractionated mouse mesenchymal stromal cell-conditioned media to identify the biologically active component affecting in vivo hypoxic signaling and determined that exosomes, secreted membrane microvesicles, suppressed the hypoxic pulmonary influx of macrophages and the induction of proinflammatory and proproliferative mediators, including monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 and hypoxia-inducible mitogenic factor, in the murine model of hypoxic pulmonary hypertension.

Three different main disease subgroups of CRF (hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and atherosclerosis) patients were also evaluated, and significant associations were found between hypertension (genotype: χ (2) = 9.28, p = 0.01; allele: χ (2) = 6.00, p = 0.01), atherosclerosis (genotype: χ (2) = 5.37, p = 0.02; allele: χ (2) = 4.13, p = 0.04), and distributions of MCP-1 -2518 A>G genotypes and alleles.

To better understand hypertension development, the authors determined whether monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) is associated with arterial stiffness (pulse wave velocity [PWV]) and carotid intima-media wall thickness (cIMT) in a young apparently healthy black and white population (N=403, aged 20-30 years).
