CALM-AF10 therefore identifies a poor prognostic group within sCD3/T-cell receptor negative adult T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemias and is over-represented within early T-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemias, in which it identifies patients in whom treatment is likely to fail.

The recurring translocation t(10;11)(p13;q14) which is found in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) results in the fusion of the putative transcription factor AF10 to CALM encoding a clathrin assembly protein.
The t(10;11)(p12-p13;q14-q21) observed in a subset of patients with either acute lymphoblastic leukemia or acute myeloid leukemia has been shown to result in the fusion of AF10 on chromosome 10 with CALM (also named CLTH) on chromosome 11.
