Three tested drugs, namely, oxaliplatin, ginsenoside 20(S)-Rg3 and curcumin were revealed to possess suppressive effects on fatty acid synthase and histone H4 and reduce metastasis as determined by cell migration assay.
SET domain containing (lysine methyltransferase) 8 (SET8) is the sole lysine methyltransferase that catalyzes the monomethylation of histone H4 lysine 20, and is associated with tumor growth, invasion and metastasis.
For the first time, we have observed that LOX-1 inhibition significantly prevents metastasis formation in injected mice and, at the same time, induces a downregulation of VEGF-A165, HIF-1α, and β-catenin whose expression is involved in cell migration and metastasis, and a variation of histone H4 acetylation pattern suggesting also a role of LOX-1 in regulating gene transcription.
