In the current study, we have studied the association of two single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) +45 T>G (rs2241766) and +276 G>T (rs1501299) of the adiponectin gene with coronary artery disease (CAD) on an Arab/North-African population from Tunisia.

Polymorphisms in rs1501299 and rs2241766, and their additional interactions between rs1501299 and smoking were associated with increased CHD risks: polymorphism in rs7649121 was associated with decreased CHD risks.
Among the nine ADIPOQ SNPs, +276G>T (rs1501299) was independently associated with incident CHD in men but not in women, even after adjustments for traditional cardiovascular risk factors (Padjusted=5.5×10(-3) to 0.023; hazard ratio=1.39-1.54).
Rs2241766 and rs1501299 were significantly associated with coronary heart disease (CHD), yielding pooled ORs of 1.29 (95%CI: 1.09, 1.52; P = 0.004) and 0.89 (95%CI: 0.81, 0.99; P = 0.025), respectively.
Eleven studies covering 4303 subjects focusing on two polymorphisms [+45T→G (rs2241766) and +276G→T (rs1501299)] in the adiponectin gene and risk of CHD were included in the meta-analysis.
