The results demonstrated that miR-196a2 rs11614913 was significantly associated with a decreased cancer risk, in particular with a decreased risk for colorectal cancer and gastric cancer, or for Asian population subgroup.
By logistic regression analysis, we found that the CC genotype of rs11614913</span> was associated with an increased risk of gastric cancer</span> in a codominant model (OR = 2.68, 95%CI = 1.17-6.44).
In summary, the results suggested that the miR-146a rs2910164 polymorphism was related to gastric cancer risk in Asians but not in Caucasians, and no distinct correlation seemed to exist between the miR-196a-2 rs11614913 polymorphism and the risk of gastric cancer.
Our studies suggested that the miR-146a rs2910164 polymorphism might marginally contribute to a decreased risk of gastric cancer, especially in Caucasians, whereas the miR-196a2 rs11614913 polymorphism might not be associated with susceptibility to GC.
To evaluate the association between genetic polymorphism of miR-196a-2 (rs11614913) and risk of gastric cancer, a hospital-based case-control study was conducted in a Chinese population.
We evaluated the associations of three SNPs (rs11614913, rs2910164, and rs3746444) in pre-miRNAs (miR-196a2, miR-146a, and miR-499) with the risk of gastric cancer (GC) and peptic ulcer diseases, and with the severity of Helicobacter pylori-induced gastritis in Japanese population.
