The presence of the Gln allele in the Arg353Gln polymorphism in the FVII locus did not differ between patients and control individuals but was associated with lower plasma levels of FVIIag and FVIIa that could have a protective effect against myocardial infarction.
No significant associations between the R353Q polymorphism and MI, CVD, or diabetes were observed, although the polymorphism strongly influenced plasma levels of FVII.
In order to determine the role of two polymorphisms in the factor VII gene (R353Q and intron 7 hypervariable region) in the susceptibility to develop early myocardial infarction, a total of 175 patients with acute myocardial infarction aged 50 years or less (mean age 41+/-7 years) and 200 controls (average age 42+/-6) without cardiovascular disease were genotyped for these polymorphisms.
