Our autopsy study revealed that the distributions of amyloid deposits after LT were quite different from those in FAP amyloidogenic TTR V30M patients not having had LT and seemed to be similar to those observed in senile systemic amyloidosis (SSA), a sporadic systemic amyloidosis derived from wild-type (WT) TTR.
To model TTR-associated amyloid disease in the Drosophila model system, transgenic Drosophila were generated, expressing wild-type (wt) TTR or TTR V30M, associated with sporadic senile systemic amyloidosis (SSA) and inherited FAP, respectively.
In addition, amyloid deposition in the alveolar regions was a characteristic finding in aged patients with FAP ATTR V30M (average ages of the patients with amyloid positive vs. negative: 50.55 +/- 8.75 vs. 39.75 +/- 4.17 years old, p < 0.005), similar to the finding in one SSA patient.
