TT genotype and T allele of HOTAIR rs920778 were significantly associated with a decreased ovarian cancer risk (p = 0.0004 and p < 0.0001, respectively), which associated with advanced tumor stage, lymph node metastasis and poor prognosis.
The HOTAIR single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) rs920778 (C > T) and rs12826786 (C > T) present in the intronic enhancer and promoter regions of HOTAIR, respectively, are associated with expression, cancer susceptibility, and patient prognosis in some tumor types.
In addition, we also found that the TT genotype of rs920778 was correlated with advanced tumor stage (p = 0.039), highly histological grade (p = 0.013), lympho node metastasis (p < 0.001) and positive infection of high risk HPV (p < 0.001).
Our research also indicated an association between the CC genotype of HOTAIR rs920778 polymorphism and clinicopathologic features of tumor, including advanced tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) stage, larger tumor size, distant metastasis, and poor histological grade (P < 0.05).
