<b>Background:</b> Two facts are generally recognized: (1) development of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is consistently linked to insulin resistance which has dietary implications and (2) circulating alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels are reasonable markers predicting NAFLD status.
