The HCL-O cells were more mature than the original cells in their degree of B-cell differentiation, as indicated by a decrease of CD19 and surface immunoglobulin (sIg) expression together with the appearance of CD38 and cytoplasmic Ig (cIg).
The cytochemical, transmission electron microscopy, and surface antigens data (CD3+, CD8+, CD11+, HLA-DR+, CD19-, CD20-) were consistent with a T-cell hairy-cell leukemia.
