As a first step towards developing an oral vaccine candidate against malaria, here, we expressed a fusion protein consisting of PfCelTOS, a candidate for pre-erythrocytic and transmission-blocking vaccines, fused to human interleukin-2 (IL-2) as vaccine adjuvant in the chloroplast of C. reinhardtii.
In this study we investigated the role of commonly accepted factors for Foxp3 induction, TCR stimulation and cytokines such as IL-2, TGFbeta and IL-10, in the generation of human CD4(+)CD25(+)Foxp3(+) T cells by the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum.
