As female obesity is associated with hyperandrogenism and infertility, we studied the role of SDC3 polymorphisms in female individuals undergoing diagnostics prior to infertility treatment.
As part of this review, we will highlight how syndecan-3 can mediate the activity of adiposity signals, such as leptin, and facilitate changes in neuronal plasticity.
Of three SNPs in SDC3, rs4949184 was not associated with obesity and the other two SNPs (rs2282440 and rs2491132) were strongly associated with obesity (P < 0.0001), and the results were confirmed in the second independent study group.
