The obtained data suggest that the delivery of microRNA-149-5p via polysaccharide based carriers could achieve collaborative impact in cartilage regeneration and have a potential to enhance osteoarthritis treatment.
Taken together, our data suggested that miR-140-5p and miR-149 could mediate the development of OA, which was regulated by FUT1. miR-140-5p/miR-149/FUT1 axis might serve as a predictive biomarker and a potential therapeutic target in OA treatment.
We found that miR-149 is down-regulated in OA chondrocytes, and this decrease seems to be correlated to increased expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNFα, IL1β and IL6.
Amongst these 7 human miRNAs, 1 was up-regulated in OA chondrocytes (hsa-miR-483-5p) and 6 were up-regulated in normal chondrocytes (hsa-miR-149*, hsa-miR-582-3p, hsa-miR-1227, hsa-miR-634, hsa-miR-576-5p and hsa-miR-641).
