Our objective was to examine the prevalence of pendrin antibodies in autoimmune thyroid diseases and compare with that of thyroglobulin, thyroperoxidase, TSH receptor, and sodium iodide symporter antibodies.
These results suggest that pendrin may play a role in thyroid hormone production as the apical porter of chloride/iodide and investigation of pendrin leads to a better understanding of functional aspects of the iodine transportation system in thyroid diseases.
